Concept: Since portability and ease-of-use are design goals for all Tele Vue telescopes, we developed alt-azimuth mounts which share these same goals. The Tele Vue yoke and cradle design offers balanced, smooth motions. Tripod selection ranges from the extremely portable aluminum Tele-pod to the rock-solid wooden Gibraltar.

Tele-Pod
A complete, lightweight telescope mount featuring smooth alt-azimuth motions and optional Sky Tour object locating capability. Perfect for our smaller, travel-easy refractors.
Telescope height ranges from 28" to 62". Aluminum tripod legs are 2-section, black anodized and foam covered. Retractable rubber-tipped foot pads reveal metal ground spikes. A quick release knob removes the head from the center column. The head and tripod are offered separately as well.
The self contained head is Sky Tour ready and can be used on any camera tripod with either a 1/4-20 or 3/8-16 stud. It is the most portable DSC mount head available. We highly recommend the Eyepiece Caddy Set accessory since the Tele-Pod Mount and standard camera tripods do not have accessory trays.

Panoramic
While the Tele-Pod represents the most travel friendly mount for our smaller scopes, for more rigidity under heavier loads, we took the Tele-Pod head and adapted it to our fine Panoramic wooden tripod. Since the Sky Tour encoder attachment points are within the head itself, the Panoramic mount is Sky Tour capable.
The Panoramic Mount is available in solid ash or beautiful walnut wood with
brass fittings. It places the scope from approximately 3- to 5-feet high. Metal
ground spikes with rubber tips are provided. A central tray adds rigidity and a
convenient platform for accessories.

Gibraltar
Our longer, heavier 4" scopes are best matched to the rock-solid Gibraltar mount. The thicker wood legs best handle the loads, especially for high power viewing. Sky Tour capable.
The Gibraltar tripods are finely crafted and American made in a choice of
solid ash or walnut wood for beauty and quick vibration dampening. Leg
extensions raise the tripod height to 5-feet, still ideally sized for use with
our Air-Chair observing stool. An accessory tray ties the legs together for
rigidity.

Gibraltar-5
Our latest Gibraltar mount mates the standard Gibraltar tripod with a new
larger, heavier alt-az head. The new head is an inch wider than the original
Tele-Pod version, has larger bearings, and cradle holes to accept the Tele Vue
NP127 baseplate as well as all other Tele Vue scopes. It accepts all accessories
including Sky Tour (spacers STS-5002 required to fasten the azimuth encoder
cover to the wider baseplate).

Sky Tour
The Tele Vue Sky Tour computerized object locating system integrates seamlessly with our mounts to put 2,000+ objects within your grasp. Quick setup 2-star alignment allows observing fixed objects without fiddling with latitude, longitude, date or time inputs. Easy to use Guide mode shows you the direction to move the scope in order to center the selected object. Sky Tour adds R.A./Decl. digital position readout (resolution: 1' R.A, 0.1-deg. declination) to mounts.
For even more objects, Sky Tour can
now interface with TheSky astronomy program from Software Bisque, Inc.
through your PDA or laptop. Sky Tour can be ordered factory installed or

Tripods and Heads Bought SeparatelyTele-Pod Heads (TPH-1016) can be purchased without tripod and have ¼"-20 and 3/8"-16 threaded holes for mounting on photographic and Tele Vue tripods. Tele-Pod, Panoramic, and Gibraltar tripods sold separately — except pre-2002 Gibraltar tripods — have the 3/8"-16 hardware for mounting Tele-Pod heads. Owners of pre-2002 Gibraltar mounts must purchase the Gib Upgrade Kit (GUK-1001) to mount a Tele-Pod head sold separately. |
